Lifting and hosting equipments, such as lifts, cranes, escalators, ski lifts and the like and also their lifting accessories and safety components, are subject to local and regional statutory regulations. Examples are the European Machinery Directive 98/37/EC, and the European Lifts Directive 95/16/EC for new constructed equipment as well as many national regulations for in-service inspections.
New constructed lifting and hoisting equipment are to be assessed and approved by accredited bodies; in-service inspection requirements are often in place to ascertain integrity and safety of such equipment.
