The European sector is governed by two major Directives on “Atmosphères Explosive” (ATEX). The safety of workers regarding explosion hazards, known as ATEX 137, is referred to by Directive 1999/92/EC. The assessment of equipment design (Ex-apparatus), ATEX 95, is laid down in Directive 94/9/EC. These two Directives are at the top of the regulatory and normative framework.
