Explosion Protection

Explosion hazards are a recognised issue throughout the world but controlling and mitigating these risks remains complex and an ongoing area of concern. Expert knowledge and experience is required to identify, evaluate and reduce such risks to a tolerable level. The methods used to structure the process for maximum effectiveness vary significantly often blurring the view of operators and owners of plants while managing the explosion risk on their sites. SGS helps to identify hazardous sources, to design and implement measures to prevent ignition and mitigate the effects of explosions on personnel, assets and business continuity.

The European sector is governed by two major Directives on “Atmosphères Explosive” (ATEX). The safety of workers regarding explosion hazards, known as ATEX 137, is referred to by Directive 1999/92/EC. The assessment of equipment design (Ex-apparatus), ATEX 95, is laid down in Directive 94/9/EC. These two Directives are at the top of the regulatory and normative framework. SGS Industrial Services has built up significant knowledge and experience which can assist you to achieve compliance in a timely and practical manner offering consultation, inspection and trainings for explosion safety.
